It's hard to believe today marks 2 weeks that our kitchen began the process of being gutted. It's been a whirlwind to say the least. We went from a livable kitchen to studs in a matter of days. Thank goodness for friends (+ muscles) because this 22 wk. pregnant gal could only do so much. >> insert all the dust.
here is what we were working with/working to destroy:
What seemed like a easy demo- turned into several other spots of the house that needed gutting too. For example, the secret stairs in our kitchen (which mind you, were adorable but not functional at all) came out. Which then resulted in a giant hole in our bedroom- directly above. which resulted in tearing up the carpet. (which actually is my favorite job to do) Same with our dining room- our electrical pal needed to access the wiring/light- in the middle of the room; which led to a big hole in the ceiling.
So as one project led to two- two led to three + now we have one big ol' project. (YAY!)
>> I know, so dramatic..but don't let the sarcasm/underlining tones fool you- I am super excited. My husband has been working his tail off- long work weeks plus coming home to work on this house. He's a hero in my book. <3 (Adam, you're the best!)
As for other kitchen updates:
- all the walls are torn down between the dining room + kitchen- making it an open space; which is SO awesome!
- the header beams are being set this weekend!
- the electrical work is done + lighting is installed!! hooray- we have light! mega grateful for handy friends, like Jared.
These are milestones my friends; especially that electrical work! as walls + ceilings were coming down we realized quickly that all the wiring was old knob + tube; mega outdated! so electrical was the first project to tackle.
as we are currently out of kitchen commission; we made our one upstairs room (which will eventually become a bathroom) into our new makeshift "kitchen" >> it's cozy + do able- and it's like we're living in an upstairs apartment! ;)
Excited to share more as this process unfolds! <3
